Keely's blog - Part three
Before starting my PR task for Boot Camp, I was at a loss on how to gain national coverage for my business. I understood the concept of PR and the reason for sending press releases; however I couldn't see how to generate attention for my business and brand.
As a small company we are not exactly making headlines with newsworthy events on a daily basis.
Paula's mentoring has made me see there is more to it than just simply sending a press release. She has given me other options for getting our name out to the media and her suggestion of writing tips and advice is a great way to keep in the media's eye even when we may not have anything worthy of an actual press release.
I now have a regular slot allocated in my schedule to focus on PR and I take the time to think out of the box when it comes to what could grab us a spot in a weekly magazine.
Although my main objective in the overall task to secure a joint venture with a UK publication, that has not yet come to fruition but I believe I am starting to make headway. I also like the thought that the next time a journalist should write an article relating to our industry that there is a possibility that they will think to include us.
I have also been focusing on the link building and SEO as Paula suggested, and I'm currently looking at online publications in which I can get my site featured.
Finally I am far more organised when it comes to PR now, I take my time to plan out what needs to be done and when and actually feel like I spend those several hours a week productively.
