Tom's blog - Part three

So the first task is complete... well not really, because the one thing that I have to take away from the task is that we are at the beginning of our PR journey, and Paula has helped give us some fab ways of creating PR. It is amazing how one little idea turns into a rolling set of ideas that can grow quite quickly... just look at Gordon and his pirate story.

Paula's final task is to plan and be organised in your PR campaigns, something that I am starting to do with everything to do with my business. I am sure anyone else at the start of their business has been running around like a headless chicken.....PLANNING IS THE KEY!! The only thing is, my office now looks like a it has some weird 70's style wall paper that makes your eyes go funny with all the A1 pieces of paper on my walls with the 6month & 12months plans for various things!!!

I have also created sets of lists for types of PR stories that I can link into, these include educational, business start up, health, drugs, and collaborative. Which brings me onto what Paula asked me to do in the first place... COLLABORATE!!

My first attempt at a collaboration started well, but didnt result in anything. But I have now another collaboration on the go with something called 'Birmingham Science City' and the ThinkTank in Birmingham. We are looking into ways of working together at events that promote science to all people in the West Midlands region as well as attracting those that wouldn't normally get into science. It looks very promising...

To sum up... PR can be difficult at first glance, but with a little planning and imagination you can create articles, events and stories everyday.
